Hope life is as good as it looks from up here! I am Poonam and we are only the second batch at this coding bootcamp, even so I have strong reasons to believe we are one phenomenal batch! Don't wanna toot our own horn but... TOOT TOOT!

Now, if you're planning to attend this bootcamp or even considering it; I imagine you have lots of questions. I am going to try and tell you guys as much as I can about my experience here, (and not just the coding portion of it) , over the course of the rest of my stay here.. but first, a little bit about myself:

I am a Bengali American, raised in New York, and currently residing in Houston.

... and that's me! Selfie taken the first time we hung out by the beach, which happens to be right behind the school!
I  am a STEM teacher by profession and a student by heart.

Every summer for the past three years I have used my time off to try something new - whether it was establishing my own henna page and building a client base, getting a Real Estate license, or signing up for my first international trips without my family with EF - as in Education First; and I had tons of fun doing these things! More importantly I learned so much, and met so many amazing people who inspire me everyday.

So this summer, I have finally decided to commit to something that has been on my mind for a while: coding. I'd say Tortuga Coders was the perfect bootcamp for someone like me, considering an opportunity to learn a much needed skill in today's World while exploring a new island, and meeting new people is a dream come true. While I'm enjoying the view, food, culture, and the people here; it's not just a vacation. Coding in itself is pretty challenging and requires time, practice and dedication - thankfully we have a pretty amazing team who is really there for each other and an instructor always available to provide some one-on-one help. So I guess you could say, "I get by with a little help from my friends".

Just a pic of the crew with Tony (our instructor) on a Friday night. Granted some of us are missing but you'll learn more about them soon enough - that is if you stay tuned! ;)

Well, I think that was quite a lot of information for today, but I'll be back with more pretty soon if I'm not abducted by the aliens from Area 51; I seem to be pretty far out of reach at the moment though, so the likelihood of that happening is pretty low.

In the meantime, do enjoy the picture of this plate of vegan nachos I had for lunch a while back.

YUMMM!! Such a work of art!
